The focus of the 26th annual camp is rudimentary drumming marching percussion and "pit" percussion, which is accomplished through a highly structured curriculum unlike that of any other percussion camp in the nation.

Gontiz said the camp is a great experience for students like him who haven't grown up taking band since the fifth grade.
In fact, Gontiz said he started in band just two years ago, which he said is a tribute to
"I couldn't even read music," he said.
Gontiz said he was a sophomore when he saw the drum line marching around the school and thought it was something he would like to do.
He said he plans to get the most he can out of attending the three-day drum camp.
