July 16--From rock-a-billy guitar pickin' to ukulele strumming, and from hula to hip hop dancing -- the Williams Community Center's Summer Showcase this weekend once again drew a capacity crowd, the majority of which stayed for the entire 21/2 hours.

Even Sonny and Cher made an appearance. When the curtain dropped, Ron Simmons and Barbara Mayberry were revealed, dressed as the famous couple. Simmons and Mayberry began the show with a three-song performance that included "I Got You Babe."

Dancers, singers, and instrumentalists starred throughout the night. After Simmons and Mayberry, Kiana Sanapaw, Leann Sanapaw, Nick Potter and Preston Marquez performed a hula dance -- fitting right in to the tropical theme of the Summer Showcase. Another dance included a hip-hop dance-off featuring Kiana and Dakota Sanapaw.

Vanessa Covarrubias, Melissa Baikie-Rick and Jody Bowker were among the showcase's solo singers. Husband and wife Shane and Beverly Maxey sang a duet, as did Kelly Lewis and Loraine Joy. Loraine Joy also sang in a barbershop quartet, along with Gordon McBurney, Ed Hull and Dale Townsend.

Aaron Baikie-Rick, John Lauppe and Ken Edwards each sang and played guitar in their performances.

The night included instrumental performances by Ricardo Carmona -- who rocked on stage with an extended guitar solo -- and Benji Balatbat, who treated the crowd to a piece on the piano.

The night was capped off when all of the performers joined onstage for the Beach Boys hit "Kokomo" -- complete with Hawaiian shirts, bongos and hula skirts.

All of the proceeds from the night, which included a raffle with 20-plus prizes, will go toward getting the Williams Community Center a stage of its own. The stage currently used for these events has been provided by Williams High School.
