July 16--Thanks to a new grant, the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science will join forces with the Natural History Museum of Jamaica for a partnership and student exchange program.
The $77,500 grant, announced Wednesday, comes from Museums Connect, an initiative of the U.S. Department of State'sBureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the American Alliance of Museums.
Through the program, 30 high school students in Miami and Kingston will be chosen to take part in restoration activities in their home cities such as removing invasive plants, planting native species and observing wildlife.
The students in each location will keep in touch through social media, and a handful of teens from Miami and Jamaica will have the opportunity to travel to the other location during the course of the yearlong program.
