BRIEF: Beware of jury duty phone scam

July 16, 2014

The News-Sentinel (Fort Wayne, Ind.)

July 16--The Allen County Sheriff's Department is warning citizens of a new phone scam. Residents are receiving phone calls from a person identifying themselves as a police officer. The person then tells the victim they had missed a summons for jury duty and a warrant has been issued for their arrest. The caller says a fine has been assessed and the victim must pay the fine. Sometimes the caller becomes belligerent with potential victims.

Citizens receiving this phone call are to hang up on the caller or not answer the phone at all. Do not give any personal information such as a Social Security number or credit card/bank account number.
