Tokyo stocks end flat, selling after rally offsets buying on weak yen

July 15, 2014

Tokyo stocks ended almost flat in choppy trading on Wednesday as selling to cash in on recent gains offset buying triggered by slight weakening of the yen against the U.S. dollar.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 15.86 points, or 0.10 percent, from Tuesday at 15,379.30. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 0.09 point, or 0.01 percent, lower at 1,273.59.

Major decliners included insurance, nonferrous metal and rubber products shares, while real estate and air transport sectors gained ground.
