July 15--Four months after he joined Cherwell Software's board, Craig Harper has been named president of the Colorado Springs-based software developer.
Harper, who has spent more than 15 years in executive marketing and sales posts in software and information technology, will oversee marketing, sales, services and support for the company, which develops software that keeps computers, networks and other information technology equipment running properly. He'll report to Cherwell CEO and co-founder Vance Brown, who had been president but felt it needed to be a separate position to strengthen the company's management team.
Harper joined the company's board in March, just after leaving as vice president of worldwide sales for ServiceMesh, a Santa Monica, Calif.-based company that develops and sells software that manages Internet-based software for corporations and other large organizations.
"Cherwell is a unique business technology company with a winning corporate culture," Harper said Tuesday in a news release. "I'm excited to join a very dedicated group of individuals that work to continually push the boundaries of ITSM (information technology service management)."
Before joining ServiceMesh, Harper spent three years as vice president of sales and services for ServiceNow, helping the Santa Clara, Calif.-based software developer to grow revenue from $18 million to $200 million. He also spent 14 years at Houston-based software giant BMC Software, where he started as an account manager and eventually was promoted to vice president of worldwide sales.
"We are very happy to welcome Craig as president of Cherwell Software," Brown said. "His short time serving on the board has proven his vast knowledge and rich background of our market was the perfect fit for having him join the company in an expanded role. We are thrilled he believes that Cherwell has an incredible upside."
Brown and two other partners started Cherwell in 2004 after leaving software developer FrontRange Solutions before it was sold and moved its headquarters from Colorado Springs. Cherwell landed $25 million in venture capital from New York-based Insight Venture Partners in 2012 to expand its sales operation and product line and now employs 211. Although the privately held company doesn't disclose financial information, Brown said its revenue in the past 18 months is up 60 percent from a year earlier.
