July 16--Huck Finn's on the Water will host a benefit for the family of Shalim Augustine, the 23-year-old La Crosse man who drowned in the Black River last week.

To help the Augustine family pay for funeral and burial costs, servers and bartenders will donate 100 percent of their tips earned on Thursday. The benefit begins at 4 p.m., with live music from Joe Cody and Jan Arden starting at 6 p.m.

There will also be a bake sale and a silent auction with items including: A fall river cruise, a lithograph signed by Aaron Rodgers, Wisconsin Badgers tickets, La Crosse Loggers tickets, massage gift certificates, hand-painted wine glasses and numerous local business gift certificates.

Organizers are still accepting donations for the bake sale and silent auction. For information on how to donate, contact Patty Baumgartner at 608-780-0648.

For those who cannot make the benefit but would still like to donate, all local Associated Bank locations are accepting deposits to the "Shalim Augustine Benefit Fund" through the end of July.

Augustine's funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church, 111 N. Ninth St. in La Crosse. The Rev. Patrick Augustine will officiate, and burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

A visitation with the family will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. The Augustine has extended an invitation to the entire La Crosse community to come and pay their final respects.
