WASHINGTON, July 14 -- World Bank issued the following news release:
The World Bank has appointed Bolormaa Amgaabazar as its new Country Representative for Timor-Leste. Ms.Amgaabazar has formally joined the World Bank office in Dili today. She will replace the outgoing Country Manager, Luis Constatino who will take up a new post in Nicaragua office.
Bolorma Amgaabazar, a Mongolian national, previously held positions as a Senior Operations Officer for South Sudan and Somalia while based in the Nairobi office, in the Africa Region of the World Bank. She joined the World Bank in 2004 as Trust Fund coordinator at World Bank office in Jakarta. She was a member of the World Bank task team for the national community development program in Indonesia (known as PNPM) and was responsible for the implementation of the program in eastern parts of the country, with a special focus on Papua and West Papua provinces. Ms. Amgaabazar will meet the Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao and other Senior Government officials Monday July 14th, 2014 for an official courtesy visit. She will also attend the Presentation Ceremony for the World Bank-financed Dili-Ainaro Road rehabilitation. She will be accompanied by the World Bank Country Director for Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste and the Pacific Islands, Franz Drees-Gross as well as the outgoing Country Manager, Luis Constantino.
"Going forward, Ms. Amgaabazar will lead the World Bank's engagement in Timor-Leste, aiming to connect people to critical services and to ensure shared prosperity", said Franz Drees-Gross, World Bank Country Director for Papua New Guinew, Timor-Leste and the Pacific Islands.
Under her leadership, the World Bank will continue to support the Government's efforts to promote sustainable development, good governance, and job creation.
The World Bank has provided support for Timor-Leste since its inception and had helped to achieve remarkable progress in many areas such as increasing school enrolment, improving health status, and providing infrastructure like schools and hospitals rehabilitations.
