THE KURDISH GLOBE

Mid- July is the beginning of the filming of the new movie ?Curse of Mesopotamia? (or otherwise known as Lahnati Mesopotamia) that is directed by the Syrian Kurd Lauand Omar.

The movie mixes the horror and history genres and retells the legend of Kawa the Blacksmith, his fight against King Azdahak, the day Newroz was born.

The movie?s script, also written by Lauand Omar, won at the 2012 Hollywood Screenplay Competition.

Curse of Mesopotamia has chosen to star cast members from all around the world. Actors from the USA, France, Morocco, Algeria and different parts of Kurdistan will be used in the film. It will be produced by the local Production Company Visual K, founded by Fekri Baroshi and Jesus Roldan.

This will become the first English Language movie shot in Kurdistan and in the whole region as well. It promises to attract a lot of attention worldwide.

?Movie Festival is important, but we cannot just have festival movies, they are seen only by a selected group of people.

We also need commercial movies; cinema is about diversity, and what better way to reach a global audience than an entertaining scary film filled with action and suspense. This to let the world know about the story of our hero Kawa?? says Writer/Director Lauand Omar.

So far, the actors announced on the Movie's Official Facebook page, www.facebook.com/curseofmesopotamia, are: Melissa Mars (France), who starred opposite John Travolta in ?From Paris with Love? and Karim Saidi (Morocco) who was first seen in Steven Spielberg?s ?Munich?.
