July 15--BEIRUT -- The World Bank is urging the international community to help Lebanon bring more financial resources for it to cope with the presence of the huge number of Syrians in the country, Haneen Sayed, human development coordinator at the World Bank told The Daily Star.

"We are trying to raise more grants to support Lebanon because we think that the situation is quite dire," she said. Despite the difficult situation that the country is going through, Sayed expressed her optimism about the economic situation in the near future if the number of refugees stabilizes or goes down.

" Lebanon has proved to be resilient to heavy external shocks and many countries would have collapsed by now," she said. But she emphasized the importance of implementing some reforms in the electricity, water, health and education sectors in order to enable the country in better facing its challenges.
