Schneider Electric's data centre infrastructure management (DCIM) solution, StruxureWare for Data Centres, has been integrated with HP's Universal Configuration Management Database (UCMDB), the company announced at HP Discover last week.

The integration would allow for increased communication between IT service management (ITSM) and DCIM platforms, Schneider said, providing data centre managers with more cohesive management of data centre assets.

"Today's data centre managers are increasingly challenged by enduring silos between IT and facilities that lead to a breakdown in communication, making it difficult to take the first steps towards streamlined operations, improved efficiency and reduced costs," said Soeren Jensen, vice president of Enterprise Management and Software at Schneider Electric.

"Through this collaboration, we are bridging the gap between IT and facilities infrastructure and arming IT service providers with the data and insights they need to optimise the efficiency of their facilities."

Typically, DCIM and ITSM platforms operate independently of each other, with data centre managers having to assign different teams and resources to manage change within each domain. But by integrating StruxureWare with HP's UCMDB, Schneider said that communication and asset data reconciliation can be enabled between DCIM and ITSM platforms.

This allows managers to control both IT services and physical infrastructure within the data centre, Schneider said.

"Operating DCIM and ITSM platforms independent of one another is not only costly and time consuming, but can make it difficult for data centre operators to manage IT and facility functions smoothly and efficiently," said Rick Einhorn, HP's vice president of worldwide data centre consulting.

"HP's Universal Configuration Management Database will now help customers to effectively leverage Schneider Electric's DCIM solution, StruxureWare for Data Centres, by enabling enhanced communication with ITSM for more holistic and integrated management of data centre assets."
