Lucinda Williams plays makeup show after Taste cancellation

July 12, 2014

July 13--Lucinda Williams will be playing a free, impromptu concert in Chicago tonight to make up for her afternoon show's cancellation at the Taste of Chicago, the singer's management announced on Facebook.

Williams will be singing at Reggie's on State Street, 2105 S. State St., venue owner Robby Glick said. Information on the show is also posted on Williams' social media pages.

After hearing that Williams' show got canceled, Glick said he heard through social media that she was searching for a venue to play tonight and reached out. As luck would have it, Glick said his venue didn't have a music act booked for maybe the second time in seven years.

The show is scheduled to begin around 10 in the Music Joint. It is free for anyone over 21 and it's first come, first serve, Glick said.

Reggie's Music Joint holds around 250 people.

Not all local venues were receptive to Williams coming in, according to Williams' management, who posted the following on Lucinda Williams' official Facebook:

"Just called Buddy Guy's club -- the girl I talked to didn't want to put much effort in getting ahold of mgmt and I also got the feeling she might not have known who Lucinda was. Kind of reminded me of the story about Charlie Watts not being able to get into the Cabooze in Mpls where the Stones were doing a secret show. Oh well."
