July 13--On July 26, Verdun Adventure Bound and the Fredericksburg Blues Society will host the "Red Hot & BLUES" Festival at the new Anne Marie Sheridan Amphitheater at Verdun's facility in Rixeyville.
The day begins at 10 a.m. with three concurrent music workshops on harmonica, guitar and drums. Each lasts 90 minutes, and sessions are open to the public and included in admission cost.
From 10 a.m. to noon, guests can tour the facility via a hay ride or try the climbing wall, under the supervision of staff.
Concerts start at 1 p.m. with the Dear John Blues Band as the opening act. At 2 p.m., nationally renowned Gaye Adegbalola and the Wild Rutz take the stage. The final act before the headliner will be the Blues Buckets, who will perform from approximately 3 to 5 p.m.
The featured performer is Jarekus Singleton, who released his CD "Refuse to Lose" in May through Alligator Records.
Vendors will be onsite with goods, food and drink available for purchase.
Tickets are available online at verdunadventure bound.org. and at the gate. They are $30 per person, except for members of the Fredericksburg Blues Society and military personnel, who get a $5 discount.
Family tickets are $60 for general admission, $50 for Fredericksburg Blues Society members and the military.
Guests are invited to bring a blanket or lawn chairs. Alcohol and firearms are not permitted.
Verdun Adventure Bound is a youth-retreat center on more than 50 acres in Rixeyville. Its mission is to provide children with experiences that support and promote personal growth and learning from the environment.
Verdun Adventure Bound received the 2010 Culpeper County Chamber of Commerce Award Recipient for Nonprofit of the Year.
