July 11--JOPLIN, Mo. -- Like Nine Inch Nails or Awolnation, Tantric may as well be the performance name of a single singer.

"37 Channels," the latest album from Hugo Ferreira's band, features a lineup of guests including Hinder's Austin Winkler, Shooter Jennings, 3 Doors Down drummer Greg Upchurch, Uncle Kracker guitarist Kevin McCreery, Saving Abel guitarist Scott Bartlett and Leif Garrettt.

The album reflects work that started about three years ago, when Ferreira was interviewed by the Globe for a concert in Miami.

He keeps a crazy songwriting pace -- more than 100 songs were written for "37 Channels." Nineteen were recorded then whittled down to 13.

"Sometimes, I'll start at 8 p.m., and I'll go until 8 in the evening in the next day," Ferreira said in 2011. "It's an obsession. I can't leave until it's finished. It's not always great, and sometimes I'll say that it sucks, but I finish them."

Tantric returns to the region with a concert Friday at Rock 3405, touring in support of the new album and its singles, "Mosquita" and "You Got What You Wanted."

According to the band's bio, the album reflects on the ADD-like switching of topics, from lighter jokes to dark subjects.

Originally planned for a 2012 release, the album took a while to come together. Ferreira played each instrument for rough cuts before recruiting musicians to record at Nashville'sRivergate Studios. He also produced the album himself.

"There are bits and pieces of my entire life in this record," Ferreira said. "So it really did take my whole life, and that's why it can only be written and recorded in this way."
