WASHINGTON, July 10 -- The office of Sen. Kay Hagan, D-N.C., issued the following news release:
U.S. Senator Kay Hagan, a member of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, released the following statement today after the Senate confirmed the nomination of Mayor Julian Castro to be the next Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
"Julian Castro has shown exceptional leadership and vision during his time as Mayor of San Antonio and I am pleased that my colleagues on both sides of the aisle could come together to approve his nomination to be the next Secretary of Housing and Urban Development," Hagan said. "Mayor Castro has brought an innovative approach to attracting high quality, 21st Century jobs to San Antonio and spurring economic development. I am confident he will bring that same commitment to HUD, and I look forward to working with Mayor Castro on behalf of America's families in his new role."
Julian Castro is serving in his third term as Mayor of San Antonio, a position to which he was elected in 2009 after serving two terms on the San Antonio City Council. Castro has positioned San Antonio to become a leader in the New Energy Economy and encouraged inner city investment, including plans for the construction of more than 2,400 housing units in the center city by 2014.
