Commerce Minister appreciates United States Government for voting in Pakistan's favour in meeting of Board of Governors of World Bank on Dasu Dam - Press Note issued by Press Information Department

Federal Minister for Commerce, Engr. Khurram Dastgir Khan held a meeting with the US Principal Deputy Special Representative to Pakistan and Afghanistan, Elizabeth Jones to discuss the implementation status of the Joint Action Plan agreed upon in the talks held under the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA). US Ambassador to Pakistan Mr. Richard Olson was also present in the meeting.
The Minister appreciated the US Government for voting in Pakistan's favor in the meeting of Board of Governors of World Bank on Dasu Dam. During the meeting the Minister said that the Joint Action Plan was a right step forward towards enhancing trade relations between the two countries. However, specific actions along with respective timelines need to be chalked out by the two sides to achieve the desired objectives.
The Minister also commended the US Trade Representative's continued support in holding successful Business Opportunities Conferences and said that the 3rd Pak-US Business Opportunities Conference is scheduled for 2nd week of November this year in Islamabad for which the two sides have started meetings at working level.
Minister also discussed the way forward on the MoU signed between the two sides during TIFA regarding Economic Empowerment of Women Entrepreneurs in Pakistan, facilitation of Pakistani companies in the procurement processes of the US Government institution and the prospects of private US investment in Pakistan.
The Minister directed the Trade Development of Pakistan to develop proposals to keep a sustainable growth in Pakistan's exports to the US. A meeting between the representatives of Ministry of Commerce and US trade representatives is expected right after the month of Ramazan where meaningful proposals to enhance Pak-US trade volume is expected to surface.
