July 11--The Sacramento area ranks 15th nationwide among the best places for graduates specializing in science, technology, engineering and mathematics -- or STEM for short -- according to a study by NerdWallet, the San Francisco-based personal finance website.

NerdWallet considered various STEM-related factors by region, including job incomes, cost of living, size of local industries and percentage of jobs.

Not surprisingly, the San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara region in the heart of Silicon Valley topped the list, with an annual mean for STEM-related wages of $111,746. The annual mean wage for science/tech/engineering/math jobs in the Sacramento-Arden-Arcade-Roseville region was listed at $83,105.

Overall, the Sacramento area was ranked above other major metro markets such as San Diego, Minneapolis and Portland, Ore.
