Zambia : ZAMBIA to purchase maize for K60M

July 10, 2014

Zambia has announced it is spending K60 million to purchase maize from its farmers.

The Finance Ministry has assigned the funds.

Through its Food Reserve Agency (FRA), the government, is prepared to buy 500,000 metric tonnes of maize from small-scale farmers whom it would pay promptly once the maize is delivered.

The government would make the payment within two weeks.

The FRA is currently only scouting areas where the maize moisture content has fallen to 12.5 percent.

The government has already entered talks with UN aid agencies to sell some of the country's 597,000 metric tonnes of maize stock untouched from 2013.
