OGS Announces New York State's Summer Stage in Harlem Concert Series

ALBANY, N.Y., July 8 -- The New York State Office of General Services issued the following news release:

RoAnn Destito, Commissioner, New York State Office of General Services (OGS) today announced the 2014 Summer Stage in Harlem series of free concerts that will be presented on Thursdays from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. State Office Building in Harlem. This year's series will begin on Thursday, July 10 with a family fun kick-off celebration at the Adam Clayton Powell plaza.

"We are excited to continue the tradition of free concerts that make the Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. State Office Building the place to be on Thursday evenings in the summer," Commissioner Destito said. "We know how much the community likes Summer Stage in Harlem, and this year's incredible lineup of entertainment is sure to make it the best one yet."

July 10: Kick-Off Celebration

The plaza at Adam Clayton Powell turns into a family fun zone with a bounce house and train rides for the kids beginning at 3 p.m., and entertainment starting at 5 p.m., featuring DJ Stormin Norman with guest vocalists Evan Coles and Rasheeda Wallace, DJ Chuck Chillout, and a Designs by Mr. Witherspoon fashion show.

July 17: Harlem Dances

Come out for a night of world-class dance performances by some of Harlem's finest dance companies, including the Dance Theater of Harlem, Uptown Dance Academy, Full Force Dance Troupe, the Millennium Dance Company, the Universal Dance Movement, and the Impact Repertoire Theatre.

July 24: Soul

Summer Stage in Harlem sizzles to the rhythm of one of America's most popular music genres. Sit back and relax, or get up and dance to the music of Gedeon Luke and The People, and Brown Rice Family.

July 31: R&B

Enjoy a beautiful summer night in Harlem with smooth R&B sounds, with performances by The Petawane Experience, Loveparq, Janice Marie Robinson and Friends, and Legacy.

August 7: African

An evening of great music with an international flair! Taking the stage will be Boutalikoyo, Habsou Garba, Mali Yaro and Goumbe Star Group, Hassane Boukary, and Jelan Lambert

August 14: Latin

Get ready to move to the exhilarating sounds and rhythms of Summer Stage in Harlem's Latin night featuring Gil Velez Y Su Orquestra Son 9, Manny's Boogaloo Crew, and B.A. Star.

August 21: Jazz

Beloved by people for more than 100 years, Jazz spans decades of improvisation, instrumental virtuoso, and evolving tunes and rhythm. Never predictable, be sure to come out and see Harlem's best Jazz performers dazzle up the plaza at the Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. building with performances by Charisa the Violin Diva, Frank Sirius, Brooke "Viosocalist" Alford, and Ju'not.

August 28: Gospel

Capping off the 2014 Summer Stage in Harlem series is an evening of inspiring gospel, featuring the amazing talents of Juda Camp, and Hezekiah Walker, First Corinthians Baptist Church Choir, and Sionettes.

All events are free and open to the public at the Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. State Office Building, 163 West 125th Street in Harlem. Please bring your own chair.

No alcoholic beverages, coolers (defined as rigid insulated containers), or glass containers of any kind; animals or pets (excludes ADA-defined service animals) will be allowed. Any type of recording of the performance or presentation is prohibited without prior written consent.
