July 10--Los Lobos, one of the most praised and respected American bands of the past 30 years, will open the 2014-2015 Riverside Live concert series in Rochester, it has been confirmed.
The band, which formed in the 1970s in East Los Angeles and has recorded in both Spanish and English, will perform Oct. 4 at Mayo Civic Center. Los Lobos is known more for compelling albums than hit singles but did go to No. 1 on the charts in 1987 with the title song from the movie "La Bamba."
Riverside Concerts, the arm of city government that promotes the shows, has started advertising the upcoming season, and Chris Alcott, assistant general manager of Riverside Concerts, confirmed Los Lobos is booked for the opening concert.
Ticket information for the season will be announced in early August, Alcott said. Tickets will go on sale to Riverside Concerts members Aug. 11, and to the general public on Aug. 25.
