Investment firm is bringing the bowler hat back to the City for charity day

July 11, 2014

CITY workers are bringing 19th century business attire back to Square Mile by donning bowlers hats for the day.

Fidelity Worldwide Investment, a hedge fund asset management firm, are raising money for the City of London Giving Day charities by dressing to impress on Friday, instead of dressing down.

All 650 employees in its Cannon Street office will be asked to donate a minimum of 2 in exchange for a shiny bowler hat.

"We liked the idea of the bowler hats because we're in the City," says Vicki Haxton, senior manager of corporate citizenship, "and we wanted to do something different and fun, rather than people just chucking some money in a bucket to wear their jeans.

I'm going to encourage them to wear it at their desks and while they're out and about to show their support."

Each hat will also contain a numbered code that may correspond to a number of prizes donated by other companies on Cannon Street including Davy's The Wine Tun, which is offering a vintage bottle of champagne, dinner for two, and cases of wine to the cause.

Fidelity Worldwide Investment will also match the total of amount of money raised by staff.
