Haiti : MORE WORLD BANK fund for HAITI to support tourism, education and agriculture sectors

Haiti is to receive additional funds from the World Bank to promote its tourism, education and agriculture sectors.

Haiti has signed five agreements with the bank, as per which a total of US$139 million will be allocated to fund projects designed to boost standard of living of the public in the country.

Followed by this fund approval, the bank's total contributions to Haiti's reconstruction accounts to nearly US$787 million. The new funding will support the second phase of an education project likely be beneficial to nearly 160,000 children, and will bolster central Haiti against weather emergencies and preserve a national park, among others.

At the conclusion of a three-day visit to Haiti, World Bank managing director Mulyani Indrawati said, The progress in Haiti is encouraging.

The Haiti that I have discovered over these few days is very different from the one I saw following the January 2010 earthquake.
