BRIEF: Sea Wing subject of concert, book, cruises

July 10--RED WING -- Music related to the Sea Wing disaster will be performed by an ensemble of musicians at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Goodhue County History Center, 1166 Oak St., Red Wing.

Lauren Pelon, Tom Erickson, Kiki Gheen and John Reed will perform. The Sea Wing, a stern-wheeled steamboat, was on a pleasure cruise of Lake Pepin on July 13, 1890, when it capsized in strong thunderstorm winds. Ninety-eight passengers drowned.

The Sea Wing disaster is recounted in a new book, "The Sea Wing Disaster: Tragedy on Lake Pepin," by Frederick L. Johnson, which was published this week.

Johnson will discuss the disaster with passengers on two three-hour cruises at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday on Lake Pepin. For information and reservations, call 651-388-6024.
