BRIEF: Midwest City plans s 'Tribute to Liberty' celebration

July 01--MIDWEST CITY -- The city of Midwest City will present a family-centered July 4 celebration, "Tribute to Liberty," featuring music and a fireworks display.

The event kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday at Joe B. Barnes Regional Park, 8700 E Reno Ave.

Families are encouraged to bring picnic baskets, blankets and lawn chairs. There will be food vendors on site, and children's activities for a small fee, city spokeswoman Kay Hunt said.

At 6 p.m., the acoustical duo ME will perform country and pop music. Following that performance, Mayor Jack Fry will officially welcome the crowd. At 8:30 p.m., a patriotic concert by Dr. Irv Wagner'sConcert Band will begin.

Veterans and currently enlisted men and women will be honored.

The fireworks display will begin at 9:45 p.m.
