July 01--Beginning this month, a local preservation group is starting a series of dining events at historic places in the Madison area.
The Madison Trust for Historic Preservation's "Toast the Trust" series offers evening dinner events to "draw attention to the cultural and place-making value of historic places" and allow diners the opportunity to experience the historic sites up close.
The organization has operated the Historic Architecture Tours program every summer since 2001, drawing as many as 700 guests each season.
The dining events will begin July 10 at Bungalowen, a city of Monona landmark on the shore of Lake Monona.
The $75 dinner ($78.62 with service fee) includes Heritage Tavern's gin punch, local beer, non-local wine, smoked pork ribs and chicken, "inventive" deviled eggs and pesto tortellini salad.
The full menu and information about the house can be found at picnicatbungalowen.bpt.me. Tickets for the inaugural event must be purchased in advance on the same website.
"Picnic Dinner at Bungalowen" is sponsored by Barrique's, Death's Door Spirits, and Golden Egg Press.
