NBP-Poland's reserve assets in May 2014

Release date- 06062014 - NBP data: As at the end of May 2014, Poland's official reserve assets managed by NBP stood at EUR 75.5bn, i.e. 102.7bn in US dollar terms.

On 6 June 2014, Narodowy Bank Polski posted its monthly release on the country's official reserve asset holdings. According to the release, at the end of May these amounted to EUR 75.5bn, compared with EUR 74.3bn a month earlier. In US dollar terms, Poland's foreign exchange reserves stood at USD 102.7bn. This compares to USD 102.5 recorded in the previous month.

In managing foreign exchange reserves, Narodowy Bank Polski, while striving to maximize the return on the assets, gives priority to their safe investment and a requisite level of liquidity. NBP invests the funds in typical instruments used by central banks. The bulk of the reserves is invested in Treasury securities and certain amounts are held as securities issued by international institutions and government agencies. A fraction of the reserves is maintained in the form of term deposits at banks with a high credit standing and in gold.
