High Dividend Yield Marks 3-Year Anniversary of Advantus Investment Strategy

June 9, 2014

Strategic Dividend Income strategy yields more than 5% since launch

ST. PAUL, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Advantus Capital Management’s Strategic Dividend Income (SDI) investment strategy was created three years ago for institutional investors seeking higher stock dividends and lower volatility in equities. The strategy has yielded more than 5 percent since launch.

The strategy invests in income-producing securities including real estate investment trusts (REITs), master limited partnerships, utilities and other infrastructure securities. The diversified allocation, experienced team and active portfolio management process add value to balance income, volatility and inflation protection.

“The SDI strategy has performed well, providing investors with a high dividend yield, strong dividend growth and lower volatility than the broader equity market,” said Chris Sebald, president, Advantus Capital Management. “The three-year track record provides evidence that investors can earn very strong dividends without sacrificing total return.”

The composite dividend yield from the SDI strategy at the three-year mark was 5.2 percent, and Advantus believes the continued outlook for strong dividends is positive. The SDI portfolio management team screens for stocks with high dividend yields and dividend growth. The strategy provides a compelling mix of both stability and income, which are important to many investors.
