June 09--PROMOTIONS

Austin Bank has announced the following promotions at their Med Center location at 611 S. Beckham. Elena Gomez, vice president/relationship manager, began her career with Austin Bank in 1998 as a teller then worked her way through the ranks as a customer service representative and loan assistant. A graduate of Tyler Junior College and LeTourneau University, Ms. Gomez also has completed numerous lending and banking training courses. Serving in the community, Ms. Gomez has taught Junior Achievement classes and is a volunteer with the Habitat for Humanity Development Committee.

Also promoted was Wayne Golden, lending officer/relationship manager. Golden joined Austin Bank as part of the Central Loan Documentation Department in 2004. Golden is a graduate of Chapel Hill High School, Tyler Junior College and Texas A&M Texarkana. He was a recipient of the bank's Community Involvement Award for his work with the organization, and has served as a mentor for new employees in the Bank's Mentor Program.

NAMED

Juan Fernando Loa has been named director of admissions at The University of Texas at Tyler. Loa is a UT Tyler alumnus and has served UT Tyler since May 2011, most recently as a graduate academic adviser for the College of Business and Technology. Loa will oversee undergraduate admission processes for the university. Loa holds a bachelor of business administration in management information systems from Baylor University and master of business administration from UT Tyler.

UPDATE

Career Services currently is updating the operating system which is used for Patriot Jobs at UT Tyler campus.

Effective July 1, employers will be logging into a new Patriot Jobs. To ensure you are logging on to the correct database please bookmarkwww.uttyler.edu/careerservices then click on Patriot Jobs. Until the system switch-over, continue to use the same login credentials as you have been using. With the new system, your user name will be your email address. For your new password, you will receive a temporary password to login at a later date. For now, continue to use what you have been using to log onto Patriot Jobs. RECOGNITION

Tammie Jarrett has been recognized by East Texas Professional Credit Union as the Employee of the Month. Ms. Jarrett works as the head teller in the Credit Union'sTyler facility and has been employed by the credit union for ten years. Ms. Jarrett was nominated and selected by fellow employees for her unwavering commitment to the credit union and her job responsibilities. In addition, Ms. Jarrett was recognized for her care and concern for our members and the excellent rapport she has established with many of them.

SPEAKER

Gregory T. Kimmel, partner at Allen-Lottmann-Kimmel, P.C. and Board Certified in Estate Planning and Probate, will speak at the 38th Annual Advanced Estate Planning & Probate Course in San Antonio on Tuesday. His topic is "Business Succession Issues Involving Second or Third Generations That Have No Desire to be Partners."

FIT CITY

The public is invited to the Lighten Up East Texas Celebration and Prize Ceremony on Thursday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The event is being held at FRESH by Brookshire's, 6991 Old Jacksonville Highway, Tyler.

DONATIONS

UBS Financial Services in Tyler participated in National Pet Month during the month of May by collaborating with Pets Fur People to support their mission of providing a temporary haven for the animals in their care until they find their forever families. UBS assisted with financial donations as well as wish list items that employees and clients contributed to.

BREAKFAST

The Tyler Chamber of Commerce will hold a Business Breakfast, on Wednesday at Traditions from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The topic will be "Active Shooter Response: How to respond to a violent intruder to your business" and will be presented by Mark Seguin of TBG Solutions, Inc. CRUISE NIGHT

Whataburger will host "cruise night" at the Whataburger on 6849 S. Broadway Ave. Cruise nights are held on the second Thursday of each month until October. Whataburger cruise nights began in 1989 and as part of the special 25th anniversary celebration, fans will vote on their choice for Whataburger "Best in Show", each participant will also be entered to win a two-night stay at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center in Grapevine, along with a $500 cash prize, which will be raffled off at the end of the season. Family friendly activities will include games and giveaways as well as a Whataburger disc jockey who will provide classic rock 'n' roll tunes.

AFTER HOURS

The Tyler Young Professionals Network will have its June event on June 19 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The event will be held at Paradise Vapor at 2525 E. 5th St. in Tyler. Food and drink will be provided.
