Nikkei hits fresh 3-month high on hopes for global economy

Tokyo stocks gained Monday, with the Nikkei index finishing at a fresh three-month high on hopes for improvement in the global economy due to brisk economic data from Japan, the United States and China.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 46.76 points, or 0.31 percent, from Friday at 15,124.00, its highest level since March 11. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 0.21 point, or 0.02 percent, higher at 1,234.78.

Major gainers included real estate, air transport and rubber products issues.
