United States : X2 BIOSYSTEMS, MLS ink deal

June 6, 2014

A privately owned Seattle company, X2 Biosystems, has inked a deal with Major League Soccer (MLS) to provide its Integrated Concussion Evaluation (ICE) software application for MLS teams during the 2014 soccer season.

A touch-screen based application designed for iOS7 and Windows 8 operating systems, the X2 ICE is equally ideal for use at the field of play or in clinical office environments.

The X2 ICE safely offers concussion evaluation data, by harnessing the power of cloud computing, and enables approved team health care providers to instantly access to each of their players' past and current information.

X2 chief of clinical affairs, Dr. Ed Mlinek, said : "Working with MLS allowed us to create an application specifically tailored to the league's needs. The resulting application embodies MLS' specific medical protocols and can be customized to conform to the league's evolving standards in the future. We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with Major League Soccer in promoting the health and safety of their players. By continuing to prove the value of our software at the professional level, MLS is helping to pave the way for athletes in all sports and all levels to share in the benefits of the X2 ICE concussion management technology."

Dr. Ruben Echemendia, chairman of the MLS Concussion Program Committee, added : "We anticipate that using X2 ICE will standardize and provide more efficient concussion care for all MLS players. The platform will allow team medical staff to have instant access to players' historical data and provide future opportunities for assessment in different languages."
