Natural Gas Prices Trend Upward

DES MOINES, Iowa, June 5 -- The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship issued the following news release:

Natural Gas prices rose $.16 this week, closing at $4.59 / MMbtu.

Crude Oil Summary

The price of global crude oil fell this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $.07 per barrel over last week, closing at $102.66.

Brent crude oil fell $1.38 this week, currently at $108.43.

One year ago WTI crude sold for $93.31 and Brent crude was at $102.04.

Motor Fuels

As of Tuesday, June 3rd, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $3.50 across Iowa according to AAA. This is up $.03 from last week and down $.29 from one year ago. The national average on Tuesday was $3.66, up a penny from last week's price.

Retail diesel fuel prices in Iowa held steady on the Tuesday report with a statewide average of $3.80. One year ago diesel prices averaged $3.76 in Iowa. The current Iowa diesel average is $.12 per gallon lower than the national average of $3.92.

Wholesale ethanol prices fell $.02 this week, closing at $2.30. The price of Mid-Grade Blend in Iowa (10% ethanol) closed at $3.46 per gallon, up $.03 from last week's price and down $.24 from one year ago.

Heating Fuels

Natural Gas prices in Iowa were up $.16 from last week's report, ending the week at $4.59 / MMbtu.
