June 04--Luna County artists are on display through the month of June at the Deming Art Center, 100 S. Gold St.

The call for Deming and Luna County artists went out about a month ago and response has been tremendous, according to Deming Art Council member and noted photographer Diane Hudgens.

The artists are the featured exhibit at the DAC this month. The usual reception time and date of 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday has been changed to 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the DAC. The time and date change was needed to coincide with the Deming-Luna County Chamber of Commerce Frist Friday event that will be hosted by the art council and sponsored by St. Clair Winery.

The chamber spotlights a local business or nonprofit every first Friday of the month by hosting an opening house and meet and greet at the location. Chamber members have an opportunity to network during these events. The community is encouraged to attend to exchange ideas, thoughts and means of improving local businesses and the community at large.

Resident artists of the city and county paid $15 for each art work submitted for display and began turning the work in on May 28.

"The show is very diverse -- it is always very nice," said Diana LeMarbe, DAC director. "Some of the fine photography included in this art show is just amazing."

First Fridays is where the chamber members have an opportunity to a networking event. Other members of the chamber and the community attend to exchange ideas, thoughts and means of improving local businesses and the community at large. Sixteen local artists will be featured in trhe June show. Approximately 48 to 50 pieces will be on display Friday and for the remainder of the June. Many of the artw on display will also be available for purchase.

A judging was held on Thursday, and first through third place was awarded as was an honorable mention. Ribbons were placed by the winning piece and can be viewed now at the DAC.

"Deming has a wonderful variety of local artists," said LeMarbe. "We never have the same artists. The art show is as diverse as our community is. You won't be disappointed."

St. Clair Winery is sponsoring the reception art show on Friday. Guests attending -- 21 years and older -- will be treated to tasty food and wine tasting from the winery.

The art show features a variety of work including photography, pottery and paintings.
