June 06--This year's fundraising concert for the Education Foundation of Odessa might fall on a Wednesday, but inside the Ector County Coliseum, it will be "Almost Saturday Night."

John Fogerty, the former vocalist and guitarist for '60s rock group Creedence Clearwater Revival who has recorded several solo albums since the '70s, will headline the Education Foundation's only annual money-generating event on June 18.

Fogerty rose to fame fronting CCR in 1967. In 1968, the band released its eponymous debut album and its first hit single, "Susie Q." Fogerty and the band followed that up with a list of hits including "Bad Moon Rising," "Green River," "Down On The Corner," "Who'll Stop the Rain" and "Hey Tonight."

Fogerty became a solo artist after a falling-out with the band, releasing his first solo hit single, "Jambalaya," in 1973. He has gone on to record a total of nine studio albums, the most recent of which being "Wrote a Song for Everyone," released in May 2013.

Celeste Potter, the executive director to the Education Foundation of Odessa's Board of Directors, said the proceeds from the tickets sold for this show go entirely to the foundation.

"It goes towards everything we do," Potter said. "We support the AVID program and we have several other projects in the works with ECISD."

Much of the Education Foundation's money goes toward grants and scholarships. Potter said they awarded about $237,000 to ECISD teachers this year.

For Ector County graduates, she said the foundation has also allocated a total of $365,000 in scholarship money for both Odessa College and the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. For each of the past 13 years, the Education Foundation has mostly recruited classic rock acts for its annual concert.

Potter said last year's featured group, Earth, Wind & Fire, netted about $450,000.

For the June 18 show, "we're expecting another $450,000," Potter said. "Tickets have been selling ... We still have a few still available."

Tickets are going for $45 and $60. Table sponsorships are available starting at $2,000, and these include a dinner and drink.
