SpiderOak Joins "Reset the Net" Campaign to Boost Security and Privacy Features to Protect Against Mass Surveillance

June 5, 2014

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/05/14 -- SpiderOak, the 'zero-knowledge' privacy cloud technologies provider, is proud to join the "Reset the Net" campaign for a free and secure Internet. Marking the year anniversary of Edward Snowden's public release of NSA documents, SpiderOak is joining some of the largest organizations across the globe to urge Internet users, developers and content providers to add features that promote and ensure individual privacy and protect against mass surveillance.

"The Snowden revelations not only raised the level of awareness around privacy but also intrinsically changed the way people think about their online presence. It is wonderful that there is more awareness around this issue and even more wonderful to see the advancements that companies have made in the past year, especially around data encryption," said SpiderOak CEO Ethan Oberman. "The 'Reset the Net' campaign will help drive the dialogue forward, leading to a future in which we are able to set new, higher standards for privacy. We are proud to support this campaign and honored to participate in this worldwide movement toward a more free and secure Internet."

As part of its participation in this landmark event, SpiderOak will join many of the world's most popular websites in posting a declaration of its support for "Reset the Net," along with various ways to get more information, on the SpiderOak homepage. SpiderOak will also offer 5GB of free, encrypted, cloud storage and a 33 percent discount on paid plans to encourage the adoption of privacy-oriented technologies that "Reset the Net" and its organizers, Fight for the Future, are campaigning to bring into common use. Finally, SpiderOak is encouraging its users to support the movement on social media by sharing calls for greater privacy and security under the campaign #ResetTheNet.

To take advantage of the 5GB of free cloud storage or the 33 percent discount on yearly plans, users can enter the promotion code 'resetthenet' when signing up for a new SpiderOak account or upgrading from a free to paid plan. The offer will expire on July 6, 2014. To learn more about "Reset the Net" and how to protect against mass surveillance, visit www.ResetTheNet.org.
