June 05--BRISTOL -- Teenagers can travel into Michiana's past when they attend the Elkhart County Historical Museum's upcoming Curator Camp.

The new program allows participants to learn about the museum's historical collection and how to create exhibits. Curator of Education Patrick McGuire said the camp offers a behind-the-scenes look at how museums work.

"Hopefully we can show teens a future area of study when they go to college as well as a career path they may not have known existed," McGuire said.

Participants will have an opportunity to interact with objects, documents and photographs in the museum's collection, some dating as far back as 10,000 years.

They will also work on a project throughout the four-day program, which will be included in an upcoming museum exhibit. Participants will also be invited to a special event displaying their projects later this year.

The cost of the event is $40. The camp will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.June 16 to 20 at the Elkhart County Historical Museum. Participants must be 15 to 17 years old, and they must register ahead of time by calling the Elkhart County Parks Administration Office at 574-535-6458.
