June 05--The local dance company Circle Modern Dance presents "New Terrain," a summer showcase with two performances. The shows feature dancess by 11 choreographers and are 7:30 p.m.June 19 and June 20 at The Standard, 416 W. Jackson Ave.
One work, the dance entitled "A Place to Call Home" was created by choreographer Angela Hill. That work focuses on on the stories of local refugees in a partnership with Bridge Refuge Services. As part of that partnership, A World Refuge Day Celebration with Bridge starts at 5 p.m.June 20.
Tickets are $15 general admission, $12 for children or senior citizens at www.knoxtix.com or at the door. Some show seating will be on the floor, and attendees may bring their own cushions or purchase some available.
Other dances that are part of "New Terrain" have been created through such inspriations as Carl Sagan and the cosmos and even snowboarding. Guest dancers from Momentum Dance Lab will also perform.
Circle Modern Dance was founded in 1990 as a way for choreographers to showcase their work.
