All-you-can-eat steak -- at Whole Foods!

June 05--When you've already run arguably the most popular happy-hour event (69-cent oysters) in the city, what do you do for an encore?

Well, the Westlake Whole Foods is banking on its $20 all-you-can-eat-steak winning the faithful over until its half-shell extravaganza returns in the fall.

The bovine-for-bivalve swap takes place next Tuesday, June 10. The kitchen must believe it can roast enough meat for the masses because it's even making it a competition of sorts, awarding a prize to whoever can eat the most New York strip.

The 14-day dry aged steaks are roasted and cut into 1-ounce morsels and served atop baguette slices.

Stacked on a plate, the steaks, from medium to well done, will be served family-style on the communal tables, along with baked potatoes and pickles. (There may also be other meats served such as braised short ribs, oxtail and beef tongue.)

The staff will keep cooking until the steak event ends at 7 p.m.

If the weather holds, the communal tables will also be set out in the patio area.

Whole Foods Market, 2210 Westlake Ave., Seattle. The steak happy hour takes place the second Tuesday of every month from 5-7 p.m. Drinks not included in the steak deal. Beers, $5-$6, and wine and cider, $6. You can also buy any bottle in the store and drink it at the steak event. No corkage fee. Just pay at the register first. The bar also offers happy hour 3-6 p.m. daily with $1 off on pints. A bluegrass band will perform during the event. 206-621-9700 or wholefoodsmarket.com/stores/westlake.
