Tokyo stocks gain on improving outlook for global economy

Tokyo stocks gained Tuesday on improving outlook for the global economy, after the release of the Bank of Japan's Tankan business survey and positive Chinese factory activity data.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 164.10 points, or 1.08 percent, from Monday at 15,326.20. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 13.52 points, or 1.07 percent, higher at 1,276.08.

Major gainers included mining, metal products and nonferrous metal shares.
