Tokyo stocks advance in morning on improving outlook in Tankan survey

Tokyo stocks advanced Tuesday morning on an improving outlook in the Bank of Japan's Tankan business survey released before the opening bell.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 204.41 points, or 1.35 percent, from Monday to 15,366.51. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 14.65 points, or 1.16 percent, at 1,277.21.

Major gainers included nonferrous metal, mining and metal products shares.
