13 Ramazan bazaars to serve Multanites

The district government has appointed 45 price control magistrates to keep the rates of commodities under control during the holy month of Ramazan. This was declared by the Chairman of Market Committee Imtiaz Gulzar Chatan while addressing a news conference here on Saturday. He added that 13 Ramazan bazaars had been made functional and these bazaars were set up in Shamasabad, Madni Chowk, Bagh Langy Khan, Gulgasht, MDA Chowk, Mumtazabad, Wilayatabad, Basti Malook, Qadirpur Rawan, Makhdoom Rasheed, Shujabad and Jalalpur Pirwala. He said that the food and health officials had been appointed at these bazaars to check quality of commodities.

Giving details, he said that 10-kg aatta packed in special green bags would be available at a subsidised rate of Rs310 at Ramadan bazaars while the same quantity in orange bags would besold at Rs330 at 100 fair price shops set up for Ramazan. He disclosed that 427 tonnes sugar had been acquired for Multan district and it would be available at Ramazan bazaars in one and two kg packs at Rs46 per kg.

The secretary of market committee Imtiaz Wains told the journalists on this occasion that the labour department would keep marked weights in Ramazan bazaars and fair price shops to indicate that these weights were approved. Answering a question, he said that 45 CCTV cameras were being installed at Ramadan bazaars and these cameras would be linked to DCO office and central monitoring system in Lahore.

MEPCO BOD MEETING: The Board of Director of Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) approved on Saturday establishment of a new reclamation workshop in Bahawalpur at a cost of Rs60 million, recruitment of 50 new workers for Multan workshop and constitution of a customer services committee.

The decisions were made during 95th meeting of BoD held here at Mepco headquarters. The members of BoD also elected Sheikh Ahsan Rasheed as chairman of the board. The board also approved purchase of new single-phase meters, 50-KVA transformers, new vehicles for newly established sub-divisions, condcutors, copper wire, transformer oil, bifurcation of 11-KVA feeders and auction of old vehicles.
