Open Ears Festival welcomes new music, new sounds

June 3, 2014

KITCHENER, ON, June 3, 2014 /CNW/ - From a vaudevillian rendering of rock band Rush to an opera that travels the country by bicycle, the Open Ears Festival of Music and Sound welcomes all that's weird and wonderful in New Music and sound art this week, June 5-15, 2014, in Waterloo Region.

Performances include an 11-piece tribute to Rush by Canada's nuttiest musician, Toronto-based Friendly Rich. Rising Canadian artist Shary Boyle and musician Christine Fellows introduce new work. Best-selling Canadian poet, sound artist and visionary Christian BÖk performs signature sound experiments.

"Open Ears is about hearing things you've never heard before," said artistic director Gregory Oh. "We encourage people to experiment with the unfamiliar, open their ears to new sounds and experience old ones in unfamiliar ways."

Open Ears is a partner in Waterloo Region's summer Festival of Art, Architecture, and Sound, along with CAFKA.14 and Building Waterloo Region. Visit www.openears.ca.
