NovoDynamics and University of Michigan Critical Care Research Institute to Develop Next-Generation Clinical Decision Support Systems

June 3, 2014

Will apply advanced pattern recognition and adaptive learning technologies to improve patient outcomes, enhance the clinician experience, and reduce healthcare costs

ANN ARBOR, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- NovoDynamics, Inc., (www.novodynamics.com), a technology innovator focused on transforming large, complex data sets into actionable information and insights, today announced that it has entered into a master collaboration agreement with the University of Michigan Center for Integrative Research in Critical Care (MCIRCC) (www.micircc.org).

This collaborative venture will develop technology platforms and applications that advance the efficacy of critical care by combining NovoDynamics intellectual property and expertise in advanced pattern recognition, image analysis and data mining with MCIRCC’s integrated, multidisciplinary approach to critical illness and injury research. Together, the two organizations will develop real-time clinical decision support systems driven by adaptive learning algorithms operating on large datasets of patient information including medical images, real-time biosensor data, laboratory values, patient histories and treatment outcomes. Initial areas of focus for the team include the use of imagery and other patient information to support the treatment of traumatic brain, pelvic and abdominal injuries. All research will be carried out in compliance with appropriate regulations.

“Trauma is the leading cause of death for Americans between the ages of 1 and 44 and overall, critical care represents a yearly cost to the U.S. economy in excess of $260 billion, which accounts for nearly 40 percent of total annual hospital costs,” said David A. Rock, president and chief executive officer at NovoDynamics. “We’re committing NovoDynamics’ expertise and the ground-breaking work of MCIRCC scientists, engineers and clinical investigators to develop a new class of decision support systems for providers of critical care that will improve patient outcomes, enhance the clinician experience, and reduce healthcare provider costs.”

“We’re delighted to be collaborating with NovoDynamics to translate MCIRCC research into commercial solutions supporting critical care teams,” added Kevin R. Ward, M.D., executive director of MCIRCC, and professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School. “NovoDynamics has a proven track record of delivering commercial software products based on leading-edge research and large data analytics. Our collaboration will combine the research, technologies and expertise of both organizations, bringing the power of pattern recognition and predictive analytics to the treatment of critical care patients.”
