June 3, 2014

ENP Newswire - 03 June 2014

Release date- 30052014 - Florence Lam, leader of Arup's global lighting practice, has been awarded 'The Lighting Award' by the Society of Light and Lighting.

Presented by the SLL at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the National Maritime Museum, the award highlights Florence's and the wider lighting practice's commitment to technical research and knowledge sharing. The accolade has previously been given to practitioners, researchers and academics but Florence was chosen by the Society for her contribution to its guides and the profession over the years.

'The society is proud that it embraces all forms of lighting and its application and spreads this knowledge and enthusiasm through the codes it writes and the people who volunteer. For me personally, I think it is wholly appropriate that Florence's work and the work of her team on the various committees and guides are being recognised by the Society in this way.'

Kevin Kelly, Immediate Past President, Society of Light and Lighting

'It is a tremendous honour to be recognised with The Lighting Award; it is a testament to the great team I have worked with over the years at Arup, as well as all the members of the profession who contribute so much to society in so many different ways. I hope this accolade will help focus attention on the important role lighting plays in the built environment and across all design disciplines.'

Florence Lam, Global Lighting Design Leader, Arup

In March 2013, Florence became the first woman to win the coveted 'Lighting Designer of the Year' at the Lighting Design Awards and 'The Lighting Award' reinforces Arup's position for combining creative excellence with technical expertise.

The SLL is part of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers and is recognised worldwide as an authority on lighting and its applications, and represents the interests of all those interested in the application of light.
