According to Al-Khaleej newspaper (June 24, 2014), Teemu Salmi, vice-president and head of operations, Ericsson Middle East and North East Africa region, said about future of basic phones, he said smartphone subscriptions across the globe were at 1.9 billion by the end of 2013. “This figure is expected to increase to 5.6 billion by 2019. The reasons for this are lifestyle necessity and attractive prices,” Salmi concluded.
