Tokyo stocks open slightly higher on rises in U.S. shares

Tokyo stocks opened slightly higher Monday as market sentiment was lifted after U.S. shares rose on Friday.

In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 39.49 points, or 0.26 percent, from Friday to 15,134.49. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 1.20 points, or 0.10 percent, at 1,254.35.

Gainers included pulp and paper, precision machinery as well as fishery and agriculture issues, while mining and marine transport stocks lost ground.
