Tokyo stocks edge lower in morning on stronger yen

Tokyo stocks edged down Monday morning as market sentiment was soured by the yen's appreciation against the dollar.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 24.92 points, or 0.17 percent, from Friday to 15,070.08. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 0.76 point, or 0.06 percent, at 1,252.39.

Major decliners included mining, insurance and real estate issues, while glass and ceramics as well as pulp and paper shares gained ground.
