June 29--Anniston High School will play host to a free patriotic musical celebration July 1 at 7 p.m. in observance of Independence Day, courtesy of Parker Memorial Baptist Church.

This will be the fifth anniversary of the performance and the 128th anniversary of the church, said Don Gober, minister of music. Gober will lead the large choir and orchestra as they play patriotic tunes that many will know, and some that may be new to those in attendance.

"The theme of this performance is 'How God has blessed America,'" Gober said.

There will also be a dramatic element in the production that will feature depictions of Robert E. Lee, a revolutionary Minuteman, a G.I. from World War II, and more.

Gober said the concert has filled the house every year since it debuted and is expected to see over 1,000 in attendance. The performance will also showcase the musical accompaniment of the church ladies' group, the HeartNotes.

"It will be packed and free," he said, "And it will definitely be fun."
