June 28--SHAMOKIN -- Artist Gloria Zielinskie is used to seeing her artwork hanging on the walls of the Northumberland County Fine Arts Gallery, but Friday was different.

Friday's opening of Zielinskie's show marked the first time the city native did a one-woman exhibit at the gallery.

"I've exhibited here, mostly with my students and in other shows, but this is the first time that it's all my art work, close to 50 paintings," Zielinskie said.

The exhibit features many of Zielinskie's famous painting depicting a variety of scenes, from flowers to mining to scenes of Shamokin's past, like Yocht's Bakery, The F&S Brewery and Edgewood Park.

If you ask the artist which painting and style is her favorite, she won't give just one answer.

"I don't have a preference, I like them all, every scene," Zielinskie said. "For years, I mostly used acrylics, but then started with watercolors, and now, I switch between the two."

The show is a collection of recent paintings and works by an artist well known in the area as both a painter and a teacher for more than 25 years. Zielinskie currently holds classes weekly at the Northumberland County Arts Center in the lower floor art studio, where prints of her famous pieces were for sale Friday night.

Zielinskie and his husband, Francis, operated Glozel's Art Store in Shamokin with Gloria instructing and Francis doing framing. Over the years, their talented offspring have also helped with the business, doing arts and crafts and helping with the large, handpainted Christmas cards that decorate Market Street each holiday season.

"My son has some great talent and so does my granddaughter. Who knows? Maybe someday we can do the Zielinskie Family Art Show here," she said.

The exhibit is free and open to the public, and the pieces will remain on display through Aug. 1.

The gallery is located on the lower floor of the Northumberland County Arts Center and is accessible through the lower handicapped entrance. Follow the signs once inside. The gallery is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
