Dar es Salaam. Huawei, a global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider said it is talking with local mobile phone operators to provide them with fourth generation (4G) internet.

The Huawei Tanzania channel executive, Mr Moses Hella, said the talks were still going on and Tanzanians would start enjoying the high speed internet services from mobile operators in the near future.

"We are just waiting for internet service providers and mobile operators to give us the go-ahead to serve them, but we do offer the 4G internet service. Globally, Huawei is now doing a research about 5G and possibly it will be out in the next three years," said Mr Hella.

Currently, only Smile Communications offers the 4G long term evolution (4G LTE) since 2012 provided by Alcatel-Lucent while other operators provide up to 3.75G internet services.

Airtel is considering upgrading its internet to 4G. "It's time to roll-out 4G," said Airtel Public Relations Manager Jackson Mmbando recently.
