United States : ROCHE and Versant Ventures opens NEW COMPANY

A new company has been inaugurated by Roche and venture capital firm Versant Ventures, centered on regrowing the protective sheaths around nerve cells in multiple sclerosis patients. The firm would be constructed around screening technology formulated at the University of California, San Francisco, that targets the remyelination of neurons.

The firm would be funded from Versant, called Inception 5 and Roche will fund research based on a set of milestones, the companies said. Roche also has an exclusive option to buy the new company if its first compound reaches the filing stage of the Food and Drug Administration s investigational new drug application.

Shafique Virani, global head of neuroscience partnering at Roche added, The unique deal construct lends itself well to exploring exciting, groundbreaking new science and jointly de-risking early-stage research with Versant/Inception .
